AI Chatbots

Lately there has been a lot of talk around AI Chatbots with the most prominent example being ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence platform from OpenAI that made its appearance on 30/11/2022. This platform managed to exceed 1,000,000 users from its first week of operation, while on February 3rd it reached 100,000,000 users. Tech giants have announced that they will make their own chatbots.

What is a chatbot?

A chatbot is a bot that communicates with a user through writing. There are two main categories of chatbots: Scripted chatbots and AI chatbots.

Scripted chatbots have been around for several years, they have specific capabilities as they are programmed to respond with pre-designed texts and responses.

On the other hand, AI chatbots through machine learning can respond more accurately and quickly. These bots collect a very large amount of information from the internet and have many parameters that take into account. In addition to speed and accuracy, however, they also have the ability to be more "human" and understandable in their answers. The use of artificial intelligence and machine learning results in them being able to learn through every "conversation" they have with the user as they add new data to their database.

Where can ChatGPT be used?

ChatGPT is heavily used by students in schools and universities, as it can provide them with solutions to a wide range of problems. It’s also used by developers to make code. The examples of its use are plenty.

There are of course some limitations mentioned on its main page, such as the fact that it doesn’t have much perception of events that happened after 2021 and there is a possibility that it will give wrong or even dangerous answers.

This particular bot has been asked to answer exam topics of Medicine, Mathematics, Law schools and managed to pass in all 3 cases.

Can it replace certain jobs?

ChatGPT may have the ability to write articles and generate code but in no case is it ready to replace the journalist or programmer professions. I would say that it is the combination of a fast secretary with too much knowledge.

ChatGPT is a tool that has many uses. Many believe that it will replace search engines, developers, journalists, content creators. Also, many academics fear for the integrity of exams and are considering making changes to their process.

The above, of course, belong to one side of the coin. There are many people who find this technology innovative and capable of increasing productivity and finding solutions. Only time will tell... However, AI Chatbots are here to stay.
